AC Friends 24H Daytona (AFS Racing)

Feb 24, 2024

Intro

After a long long time the winter break is officially over and we have a new race recap. The season opener at Daytona and we start big with a 24 hours race we started in a full driver line up and that meant only one car. The drivers were: Me, Martin Pristaš, Marek Nitsch, Štefan Toth and Juraj Šmister.

Qualifying

Before the race even begun there was the qualifying where we had great ambitions and I would say we lived up to our expectations by qualifying in P6. The race it self is a different story though.

Race start

We started very strong in the first few hours battling for the podium and even leading the race for few hours.

Later hours

as the sun started to set the odds turned away from our favours. We encountered first of two major technical issues on our end when one of our teammates had been disconnected during his stint, although he managed to recover it was still a big loss for us as we had lost the podium.

My first stint

After his stint I was supposed to go into the car and deliver the best performance I could to save the race, But our bad luck continued and even my setup let me down and because of this issue we had lost many laps. Luckily even I managed to solve the issue and recover the most I could from the lost time.

The Night

As I drove four stints I got us back up to P10 and gave the car to Štefan and went to sleep. From what I know while I was asleep my teammates got us up to P9 thanks to some DNFs and thanks to their pace. I had my second stint at around 13:30 the next day and that's where I showcased what I can do as a driver.

My second stint (heroic actions)

As I hoped into the car right away I was setting persoal best lap times and I was scheduled to go until the end. Since we were still battling for P6 my job was to catch up to him and overtake him sounds easy util I got the information that he's 50 seconds ahead of us. After that information I started to push as much as I could and in the end I managed to maintain the pace and catch up to the guy but I was missing one or two laps to overtake him. But thanks to some penalties in the end we managed to finish in at least the P6.

Summary

Even though we had major technical issues we still managed to scramble the most we could, and I would say we finished in the best place we could. It was an amazing experience and I look forward to many more exciting races with AFS in the future.
